Why do we Need a Safety Village?
We need a Safety Village for many reasons. First, teachers don't have the tools or the time to effectively teach children what they need to know to stay safe. Secondly, parents don't have the tools either. They can't fill their homes with smoke and then have their children practice an escape route! They can't risk having their child hit by a car when at a busy intersection while teaching them the proper way to cross the street and they can't make "test" phone calls to 911 so a child will know that the dispatcher on the other end of the line will have questions they will need to answer to get help to them. These are just a few examples of what the Safety Village will provide to children and why we need the Safety Village in our community.

Do the lessons children learn really work?
Studies have shown that injuries and deaths to children have decreased dramatically in Ontario, Canada where Safety Villages have been in operation for more than 20 years. We all learn better when we are able to practice what we're taught. For instance, children don't know how to ride a bicycle because we've told them how to do it or shown them. They have to practice themselves.

Are my taxes going to increase because of the Safety Village?
No! There are no tax dollars being used to construct the Safety Village.

When will the Safety Village be open?
We will open once enough funding has been received to complete construction.

How often will my child go to the Safety Village?
Children in Kindergarten through 4th grade will attend the Safety Village twice each school year: Once for Traffic/Pedestrian safety and once for Fire safety.

My child has special needs. Will he/she be able to go to the Safety Village?
Absolutely! All children will be able to go to the Safety Village. Equipment which helps with the needs of special children will be in place to ensure everyone learns from their experience at the Safety Village. Children with special needs will experience everything all other children will experience.

How much will it cost for my child to go to the Safety Village once you open?
We do not anticipate any cost for children to come to the Safety Village.

My child doesn't have a bicycle helmet. Do I have to buy him/her one?
Although we encourage children to bring their own helmets so we can inspect them for damage and size, those children who do not have a helmet will be provided one to use.
